Alternative Care Track
ADD Wellness Group offers an Alternative Care Track to those clients who do not want to use medication for the treatment of ADHD or who only want to use medication as a last resort. We need a well thought out treatment track that helps those who want to address these symptoms without medications. Our alternative care track consists of ten areas which help to address many of the difficulties the symptoms of ADHD cause. These areas are:
- Diet
- Sleep
- Exercise
- Supplementation
- Behavioral Treatment Plans
- Parent Training.
- Executive functioning skills training (if needed)
- Accommodations (work and/or school)
- Working Memory Training(Cogmed, if needed)
- Social Skills Training (if needed)
- Coaching (Life Skills, if needed)
Diet, sleep, exercise and supplements play a critical role in treating and managing the neurological component of ADHD. The combination of a correct diet, sufficient and consistent sleep, regular aerobic exercise and the use of natural supplements can significantly improve brain functioning in individuals with ADHD. Certain ADDAlife supplements are specifically designed to target ADHD symptoms and although they are not as powerful as stimulants they do not have the side-effects that can be caused by stimulant medications.
The behavioral symptoms related to ADHD can be targeted though the use of behavioral treatment plans designed to reshape unwanted behavior patterns. Parent Child Interactional Therapy and Parent Counseling help caretakers better manage the problem behaviors associated with ADHD such as opposition, defiance and anger. Executive skills counseling can help the individual cope more effectively with their organizational and time-management difficulties and social skills training can help these individuals more effectively anticipate social demands and appropriately interact with others. |
